HOARDED ESTATE & AFTER-A-DEATH CLEANOUTS
When a loved one passes and leaves behind a hoarded home, Junk Police helps families across South Jersey clear it with care. We search for keepsakes and important papers, work with executors and relatives who live far away, and get the house ready for the next step.
CARING HELP FOR FAMILIES
CLEARING A LOVED ONE’S HOARDED HOME
Help When You Are Already Carrying a Lot
Losing someone is hard. Walking into their home and finding it packed floor to ceiling can make it even harder. You may be dealing with grief, paperwork, a will, a house to sell and family members in different states, all at once.
We take the physical work off your plate. You tell us what you need, and we handle the sorting, carrying and hauling, with respect for the person who lived there and for you.
This page is for estates where the home was hoarded or very full. For a standard estate, see our estate cleanout services.
Finding Keepsakes, Documents and Valuables
Important things often get buried in a hoarded home. Before we start, we ask what the family is looking for, such as:
- Wills, deeds, titles, bank and tax papers, and insurance policies
- Photos, letters, journals and family records
- Jewelry, watches, coins and cash
- Keys, IDs, mail and anything with account numbers
- Heirlooms or items a family member has asked to keep
As we work room by room, we set these aside in a safe spot instead of letting them go out with the junk. Anything that looks personal or important is kept for the family to review.
Working With Executors and Out-of-State Family
Many of the families we help do not live nearby. That is okay. We can do the walkthrough with you over a video call, send you updates and photos as we go, and work around a lockbox, a realtor or a neighbor with a key.
If you are the executor, we can follow the plan you set, keep the items you list, and hold anything you are unsure about until you decide. When several relatives are involved, we can work from one agreed list so everyone knows what is being kept.
When you are ready, book online and we will set up a time to talk through the home.

LET JUNK POLICE DO THE HEAVY LIFTING
Getting the House Ready to Sell
Here is how a hoarded estate cleanout usually goes:
- Talk it through. We start with a walkthrough, on site or by video, and learn about the home, the family and any deadlines, like a closing date or a lease ending.
- Make a keep list. Together we write down what to look for and who it belongs to, so nothing important is missed.
- Search and sort. We work room by room, opening boxes, drawers and bags, and setting aside anything on the list or anything that looks personal.
- Clear and haul. Everything the family does not want is loaded and removed.
- Hand off. We return the saved items to you, or hold them in one spot in the home, and leave the house broom clean.
Once the keepsakes are found, we clear out everything else: furniture, boxes, bags, appliances, clothing and general clutter, from the basement to the attic, plus garages and sheds. Usable items are donated where possible and materials are recycled where we can. We finish with a broom-clean sweep so a realtor, cleaner, contractor or buyer can see the house clearly.
If the home needs special cleaning, like biohazard, odor or mold work, let us know during the walkthrough. That part should be handled by the right specialist, and we can plan our work around it.
